The 2009 South Dakota Women’s Expo: A Day for Women is set for Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at the South Dakota State Fair Park in Huron.
Presented by Huron Regional Medical Center and the South Dakota State Fair, this year’s event promises even more fun, fashion and shopping for women of all ages. There are many ways for a business to join the fun and present products and services to hundreds of captive women as an event vendor or sponsor.
Airline hijacking survivor and author, Jackie Pflug, will provide the keynote presentation “The Courage to Succeed.” On Thanksgiving weekend in 1985, Jackie boarded EgyptAir Flight 648 and found herself in the middle of a deadly terrorist attack. She was one of three Americans who were shot, thrown to the tarmac and left for dead. But, Jackie lived.
Attendees will learn how she survived this horrendous tragedy and the lessons she learned from it. She lives to share her story and spread a message of hope and encouragement.
In addition to the keynote presentation, information on a diverse number of areas relating to women’s health and their everyday lives will be presented in a relaxing, enjoyable atmosphere. Plus, a few lucky ladies will receive free makeovers and be transformed as “Women for a Day.”

In addition to a fun and informative day, four lucky women will receive either a Healthy Living or Fashion & Beauty makeover.
Healthy Living Makeover
Do you long to be healthier? Have you lived your life on a diet roller coaster – struggling for the motivation, money or commitment to stick to a program? Now’s your chance to remove the excuses and get healthy – for good!
Two lucky women will be selected to receive Curves healthy living makeovers at Curves for Women in Huron, which include an eight-week nutrition and exercise program, a Curves Fitness and Weight Management Complete supplement kit, weekly nutrition classes and an outfit from the Curves clothing line. Each winner will also receive a certificate to invite a workout buddy along to help motivate them during their healthy living journey. On the day of the event, recipients will be unveiled, including their “before” pictures. Deadline to register is July 17.
Fashion & Beauty Makeover
Would you like to be a “Woman for a Day”? Two lucky ladies will be selected to receive a makeover including haircut, color and style, body wrap, new outfit, shoes, makeup and accessories.
Winners will be notified two weeks prior to the event to arrange sizes, etc. On the morning of the event, the winners will be introduced to the audience and then whisked off for a day of pampering and head-to-toe makeover. At the end of the day, the recipients will be unveiled as their “new selves.” Deadline to register is Sept. 4.
