Committed to Excellence by Building a Stronger Future

The HRMC Foundation has taken steps to retain talented medical staff in a rural health care setting through the Healthy Huron Commitment Scholarship.
Students who receive this honor are awarded financial support in several areas of health care education, including nursing, laboratory science and respiratory therapy. In return, scholars commit to working in Huron.
Since 2016, a total of 17 students have completed their programs and returned to Beadle County to care for the community. As of this year, 12 students have completed their work forgiveness commitments. Among those who have completed their commitments are Ethan Comes, RN, and Lanah Reimer, RT(R)(M), employees of Huron Regional Medical Center, who both plan to continue their work at the hospital.
“This is my hometown,” Reimer says. “I can’t imagine not taking care of my own community.”
HRMC is pleased to help Reimer and other medical professionals realize that goal, knowing that everyone will reap the rewards.
“The Healthy Huron scholarship benefits our community by ensuring we have a steady pipeline of skilled medical professionals returning home to work,” says Shawn Martin, executive director of the HRMC Foundation. “The advantages for the students include being able to focus on their programs without worrying about how they will pay for school and the potential of not having to carry any student debt.”
Scholarships are awarded based on grade point average, community involvement, financial need and a willingness to give back to the Huron community.
“This wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our donors,” Martin says. “They’ve helped young people realize their dreams while addressing the shortage of health care professionals in our area.”
