Having Surgery Can Help You Feel Better

People often delay hernias, gall bladder concerns or even preventative procedures like colonoscopy – rationalizing that they don’t have time. But one of the biggest reasons to have surgery is so that you can feel better – more of the time!
For example, hernias may not be excruciatingly painful, but they might be keeping you from doing the things you like to do because of the discomfort you feel when doing them. If you get those problems addressed – you not only don’t have to worry about the discomfort, but you might actually enjoy the activities even more.
More Than Just a Nuisance
Similarly, people who suffer from gall stones might be uncomfortable enough that they avoid certain things, like enjoying meals they might otherwise like to – because of the discomfort they’d deal with afterwards. Not only can getting it taken care of help you feel better, but it could also avoid major complications that can occur down the road.
Even something as common as heartburn can lead to more serious issues. What you may not realize is there can be damage happening in the esophagus or stomach that could be really problematic. Surgery helps to identify the potential causes and not only makes you feel better but can provide a sense of relief about long-term concerns.
My best advice is to just take care of those nagging pains or concerns – enjoy life more and avoid issues. Start by talking with your primary care provider or one of the surgeons who provide quality care close to home. Visit www.huronregional.org/find-a-doc to find a physician or surgeon.
