Keep Your Kids Active

PEDIATRICS
Whether your child needs medical care in the midst of summer adventures or requires a back-to-school physical in preparation for fall sports, you can count on pediatrician Sean Schooley, MD, to deliver.
“I’m very happy to be here in Huron and ready to start seeing lots of kids,” Dr. Schooley says. “I’ve spent time in many different parts of the U.S., and I’ve found that I want the ability to see children and their families in all aspects of their care. HRMC offers that opportunity to be more directly involved with the health and wellness of the children I care for and hopefully do a lot of good.”
KEEP YOUR KIDS ACTIVE
School may be out, but summer doesn’t have to be all downtime. Helping your kids stay physically and mentally active can improve their health, mood and readiness for the school year.
• Aim for moving an hour a day. Sports camps, playgrounds, exploring nature and active indoor games are all ways to keep your kids active for the 60 minutes recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
• Explore healthy eating. Get your kids involved in the kitchen with new recipes that you can all help cook. Try out new fruits or vegetables to make eating healthy an adventure.
• Get connected. Set up play dates with neighbors or classmates to keep your kids socializing in person. No friends nearby? Find free or low-cost group activities at the library, clubs and organizations or summer recreation programs.
• Stay off screens. It can be hard to drag your child away from video games or social media, but limiting screen time can improve sleep hygiene and boost mental health.
MEET SEAN SCHOOLEY, MD
Our newest pediatrician, Sean Schooley, MD, joins Huron Regional Medical Center this summer after completing a residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Children’s Hospital of the
King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia. The rural-raised physician and father of a nearly 3-year-old son is excited about diving into his practice.
“I believe in a strong community approach to medicine,” Dr. Schooley says. “I view my role as a pediatrician as an educator, so parents are better prepared to deal with normal childhood illnesses as they arise.”
Dr. Schooley will see patients at the clinic and provide care in the emergency room and for hospitalized pediatric and adolescent patients.
Schedule an appointment with Dr. Schooley for your child at www.huronregional.org/find-a-doc or call (605) 353-7660.
