Hunting is a fun activity and family tradition, but a very serious level of responsibility comes with taking to the field. Hunting can become dangerous if hunters do not practice firearm and general safety precautions. Below are a few tips to help keep you safe on the hunt!

Practice safe firearm handling. Ensure firearms are unloaded when not actually in use. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and don’t ever rely on your gun’s safety. It is also important to use your firearm as intended, including using proper ammunition and ensuring that it is serviced regularly.
Ensure safe shooting. Be sure the barrel of your firearm is clear of obstructions before shooting and be confident in your target, always keeping in mind what lies behind your target.
Protect yourself. Wear high-visibility clothing, such as blaze orange designed for hunting. Ear and eye protection is essential to keeping you protected and clothing that is suitable for the conditions is important.
Be prepared. Carry or have a first-aid kit available. Ensure you have enough water and nutrition to sustain you for your trip. It’s also helpful to understand basic first aid techniques and to have a cell phone, whistle or other system to alert others should you become stranded or injured.
