Volunteering – A Work of Heart
April 17, 2017
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month and Huron Regional Medical Center would like to extend a special thank you to our volunteers within the Auxiliary, hospice program and HRMC Foundation. Our volunteers are kind, caring, patient individuals who go above-and-beyond to enhance our patients’ healthcare experience. Time and time again, our volunteers are recognized by our patients for improving their hospital or clinic experience, simply by sharing a smile and giving a helpful hand. HRMC depends on the dedicated service of many volunteers, and we thank all of you who are currently or have volunteered at HRMC!
Volunteering can truly have a positive effect on people and communities. By donating your time, you’re able to meet different people and make new connections. For some, volunteering is an opportunity to learn new skills or gain experience. If you’re ready to challenge yourself by giving back your time, then consider volunteering for HRMC.
Volunteer opportunities are available through multiple areas of the hospital. Listed below are a few of the areas where you could volunteer:
- Auxiliary: a friendly face to greet you ... a helping hand when you need directions ... or comfort and support while you wait for a loved one undergoing tests or surgery. The purpose of the Auxiliary is to promote and advance the welfare of HRMC by rendering service to patients and assisting and contributing to charitable projects. As members of the Auxiliary, men or women volunteer by greeting patients at information desks, assisting patients in waiting areas and various other support duties.
- Foundation: The HRMC Foundation’s mission is to bring the gifts of the community together to strengthen, support and enhance the Huron Regional Medical Center system of care. Volunteer opportunities range from serving on the Foundation’s board of directors and assisting with office work to helping coordinate two major fundraising events – the Papa Luigi dinner and Humanitarian Golf Tournament.
- Hospice: HRMC’s Community Hospice program provides end-of-life support to terminally ill patients. Volunteers perform a variety of functions, including running errands, shopping and picking up medications for patients, assisting with meals or household chores, letter writing and reading to patients, and sitting with the patient to provide time off for the caregiver.
If you would like to start making a difference in the lives of others, it’s time to consider volunteering at HRMC. If you would like to apply or learn more about these opportunities, please visit www.huronregional.org/volunteer.
