Albright Honored as Auxiliary Volunteer of the Quarter

The Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Auxiliary recently honored Betty Albright as the Volunteer of the Quarter, according to Bob Eickhoff, HRMC Auxiliary President.
Albright has been volunteering at the hospital for over 21 years and is one of few volunteers to serve in all capacities, at the Central Towers and main lobby desks and in the radiology department, often working more than one shift per week. She is the second longest serving HRMC Auxiliary volunteer at current, following Tootie Stahl. In total, Albright has devoted 2,522 hours of her time to volunteering at HRMC.
In addition to her contribution of time and energy as an HRMC Auxiliary volunteer, Albright is actively involved in the Huron Area Concert Association, volunteering at her church and is a Huron Lions Eye Opener member, serving for many years at Lions functions, including the annual pancake feed.
“I have been working since I was 13 years old when I started clearing tables at the café in Wessington Springs. I trained to be a waitress after that and haven’t ever really stopped working because I love it,” remarked Albright, who worked at the telephone company for over 30 years and ran Betty’s at the South Dakota State Fair for nearly 40 years. “I enjoy meeting new people and volunteering gives that to me — it has been my privilege.”
The HRMC Auxiliary Volunteer of the Quarter award is in place to recognize the important work of the volunteers at HRMC. Bob Eickhoff, president of the HRMC Auxiliary, thanked Albright for her kindness, giving spirit and commitment, “It is our honor to recognize this type of longevity to serving others. Betty has served her community and hospital with true dedication.”
HRMC Auxiliary volunteers provide refreshments and assistance in hospital lounges, assist visitors at the information desks and deliver floral arrangements and newspapers to patients. The Auxiliary provides scholarships for students pursuing careers in health care and contributes to various projects at the hospital with funds raised through gift shop/candy counter sales and membership dues. The purpose of the Auxiliary is to promote and advance the welfare of HRMC by rendering service to patients and assisting with charitable projects.
