Chase Walder Joins HRMC Surgery Team
May 11, 2018
HURON, S.D. – Huron Regional Medical Center announces the addition of Chase Walder, a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), to the HRMC surgical staff.
As a CRNA at HRMC, Walder performs anesthesia management of patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in addition to airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CRNAs also administer epidural medication for pain management.
Walder participated in a clinical rotation as a student registered nurse anesthetist at HRMC earlier this year and began his new role on April 1. “During my rotation, I observed the tight knit community that is HRMC and their symbiotic relationship with Huron and surrounding areas,” explained Walder. “I grew up in a small community and knew that was exactly the type of healthcare system that I wanted practice in.”
Walder recently graduated from the Mount Marty College of Nurse Anesthesia in Sioux Falls, SD, with a master of science in nurse anesthesia. He completed additional clinical rotations at Sanford in Sioux Falls, Avera Marshall in Marshall, Minn., and Prairie Lakes in Watertown.
“I also appreciate the opportunity I have here to adapt and change to new practices in anesthesia – especially in regard to regional anesthesia and nerve blocks,” said Walder. “HRMC’s physicians, leadership and other CRNAs value constant improvement of knowledge and skills which leads to our patients receiving the best and most up-to-date anesthesia care, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to join this team.”
Walder earned associate of arts in nursing and a bachelor of arts in general health studies from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. He also holds a bachelor of science in nursing from South Dakota State University in Brookings. He started his career working as a registered nurse in the neurology unit at Avera McKennan before moving to the intensive care unit.
Walder and his wife, Ashley, currently reside in Mitchell and have two boys, ages 3 and 2 and are expecting another child in July. In his spare time, Walder enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, golfing, camping, cooking, watching sports and reading.
