Comes Recognized with DAISY Award at HRMC

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced Ethan Comes, RN, as a recipient of the DAISY Award.
Comes works in the HRMC medical/surgery department and was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient’s family. “Ethan did a wonderful job with my mom,” stated the nomination. “He was always cheerful, professional and showed sincerity in his level of care.”
Comes, a Huron Commitment Scholarship recipient, fulfilled his three-year commitment and now has provided care for patients and their families at HRMC for over four years. “I wanted to become a nurse for the same reason most start health care; I wanted to help people and make a difference in others’ lives. That was my goal when looking at possible careers as well as how many different job opportunities there are for nurses.”

Comes shared the fulfillment het gets from caring for others, “Although the job can be stressful and some situations are heartbreaking, the work is worth it to hear somebody say, ‘thank you for what you did.’”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at age 33 of complications from an auto-immune disease to honor his memory and thank nurses who provide exceptional compassion and kindness to patients.
Ethan and his wife, Chandler, also an RN at HRMC, live in Huron with their dog, Rocky. Ethan is also a firefighter for the Huron Fire Department and in his spare time, he enjoys hunting pheasant and duck.
Comes is the fifth DAISY Award winner at HRMC, with one nurse recognized each quarter. The department and shift of the award winner receives fresh cinnamon rolls to celebrate, as requested by the Barnes family. Nominees for each quarter also receive a pin recognizing their compassion and care. Nominations may be submitted by staff, visitors, providers and patients, with forms available throughout the hospital and online at www.huronregional.org/daisy-awards.
