Comes Recognized with DAISY Award at HRMC

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced Chandler Comes, RN, as a recipient of the DAISY Award.
Comes works as a nurse in the HRMC medical floor/ICU department. She was nominated for the DAISY Award by a colleague who shared, “Chandler is an exceptional nurse! She goes above and beyond every time you're working with her. She is so caring when it comes to taking care of patients. Chandler makes a huge impact in this career because she’s positive and knows her information.”
Comes chose to become a nurse because she enjoys helping people and making a difference in their lives. “If I'm going to have an impact on someone, I want it to be for the better. Medicine and science has always been so interesting to me, so it was the perfect opportunity to do something I love! Some of my biggest role models growing up were nurses, so I was able to learn a lot from them,” said Comes.
Upon receiving the DAISY Award Comes stated, “Getting to care for my patients is the most rewarding part. I love helping them feel better, and being there for them even if they can't. I love making their toughest days a little brighter. I wouldn't trade bedside care for anything.”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at age 33 of complications from an auto-immune disease to honor his memory and thank nurses who provide exceptional compassion and kindness to patients.
Originally from a farm near Twin Brooks, South Dakota, Comes now lives in Huron with her kitty Minzi. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her friends, family and goddaughter Bently, and enjoys cooking, reading, and listening to music. She is also a clinical adjunct and lab instructor for the Southeast Technical College Nursing Program.
Comes is the seventh DAISY Award winner at HRMC, with one nurse recognized each quarter. The department and shift of the award winner receives fresh cinnamon rolls to celebrate, as requested by the Barnes family. Nominees for each quarter also receive a pin recognizing their compassion and care. Nominations may be submitted by staff, visitors, providers and patients, with forms available throughout the hospital and online at www.huronregional.org/recognition-awards.
