Cooking, Cooking and More Cooking at SD Women's Expo

Huron, S.D – Attendees at this year’s SD Dakota Women’s Expo will be treated to food, fun and cooking demonstrations on Sat., Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.
The World’s #1 Cooking and Entertaining Magazine, Taste of Home, will be kicking off the weekend event on Friday, Sept. 25, at the Huron Event Center.
The LIVE Cooking School show begins at 6:30 p.m., but doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for the Vendor Expo & Wine Tasting. Come early and enjoy vendor booths, including Dakota Restaurant Supply & Kitchen Store, SD Pork Producers, J&K Creations, Princess House Products, Sisters With Jewels and All Natural Shea Butter! Every ticket holder will receive a gift bag filled with the Taste of Home Cooking School magazine, coupons and other goodies from national and local sponsors, plus a subscription to a digital edition of Taste of Home magazine!

Kicking off Saturday’s presentation schedule will be the Recipe Rehab Challenge on the Healthy Huron stage in the Women’s building at 9:30 a.m. The winner of the challenge, which invited area cooks to submit a healthy recipe, is Teri Bierstedt, of Brookings, who submitted a Feta-Crusted Salmon recipe. Bierstadt will team up with KSFY Evening News Anchor Courtney Collen, who will also emcee the Taste of Home event and the SD Women’s Expo.
At 12:30 p.m., Expo attendees are in for a treat as South Dakota’s White House Healthy Lunch Challenge Winner, Griffin Storm, prepares his winning recipe Storm of Deliciousness BBQ Chicken Soup on the Healthy Huron Cooking Stage. He will be joined by his mother, Rebekah Storm, a maternity nurse at Huron Regional Medical Center.
Storm’s recipe was chosen from nearly 1,000 entries from children between the ages of 8 and 12 who were challenged to come up with original recipes that were affordable, delicious and met the nutritional guidelines of the United States Department of Agriculture.
Samples for both of the cooking demonstrations will be available to attendees.
The SD Women’s Expo, now it its ninth year, features a “Leaves & Laughter” with exhilarating décor, inspiring entertainment, booths filled with specialty shops, one-of-a-kind finds, health screenings, important educational booths and surprises throughout the day. General admission tickets to the Expo are still just $10. Taste of Home Cooking School tickets are $15 and include admission to the event Friday evening, a gift bag filled with goodies from national and local sponsors, Taste of Home magazines and money saving coupons. Expo and Taste of Home general admission tickets are available at HRMC information desks, the State Fair office, East River Nursery, Prostrollo Motor Sales, Coborn’s Super Store and online at www.sdwomensexpo.com.
