Francom Recognized with DAISY Award at HRMC
November 12, 2024
Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced Miah Francom, RN, as the most recent recipient of the DAISY Award.
Francom works as a labor and delivery nurse in the OB department. She was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient who shared, “As first-time parents everything is so new and overwhelming. Miah went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of not just physically but emotionally as well.”
As a labor and delivery nurse, Francom enjoys supporting families through the joyous time of welcoming new life. “I love getting to witness and be a part of such a life changing moment. Watching a baby take its first breath isn’t something that gets old, no matter how many births I assist with,” said Francom.
Upon receiving the DAISY Award, Francom stated, “I felt all the emotions, but mainly gratitude! Grateful for the wonderful patients I get to work with, for my supportive and amazing coworkers, and for the opportunity to get to do it so close to home! Our patients deserve the best care possible, and the nurses here really advocate for that!”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at age 33 of complications from an auto-immune disease to honor his memory and thank nurses who provide exceptional compassion and kindness to patients.
Francom lives in Huron with her husband Trent. She is appreciative of the support from her husband and family, “Trent is always so supportive and thinks and prays for our patients all the time. I also would like to thank my parents, John and Bernie Schallenkamp, and my siblings for the love and support they’ve shown me from the beginning. It couldn’t have been easy, but I wouldn’t be here without them all.”
Outside of work, Francom enjoys coaching and working out at CrossFit Solveig in Huron, spending time with friends and family, knitting and reading.
Francom is the ninth DAISY Award winner at HRMC, with one nurse recognized each quarter. The department and shift of the award winner receives fresh cinnamon rolls to celebrate, as requested by the Barnes family. Nominees for each quarter also receive a pin recognizing their compassion and care. Nominations may be submitted by staff, visitors, providers and patients, with forms available throughout the hospital and online at www.huronregional.org/recognition-awards.
