Freng Recognized as HRMC Innovator of the Quarter

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) recently selected Jessica Freng, PT, DPT, to receive the Innovator of the Quarter Award.
Freng, a physical therapist (PT), created an idea to provide better and earlier communication through the therapy welcome letter and attendance policy to help prevent patient no-shows for appointments and evaluations. By updating the welcome letter and attendance policy and sending them through the new Artera System, this will help improve more consistent appointments and reduce the number of no shows/cancellations, which ultimately improves patient continuity of care.
Freng shared the motivation behind her idea, explaining how her transition to outpatient care highlighted a need for improved efficiency and reduced appointment cancellations. Freng stated, “I recently transitioned to providing outpatient physical therapy, and with several new patient evaluations, I was specifically getting a lot of cancels or no shows. I wanted to try to figure out a process that improved attendance and time efficiency.”
Upon acceptance of the award, Freng remarked, “To be honest, I didn't even realize that what I was doing was a part of the innovator award, and so I am excited that it's being recognized. I also didn't do it all on my own. Chyan (Milne) and Brittany (Olson) on our team have been instrumental in helping implement everything, too. I am just excited for people to also understand, the value of our time, so that we can help as many people as possible.”
Each quarter, the Innovator Award is presented and celebrated, indicating eligibility for an annual Innovator of the Year Award. Ideas are submitted by employees via online form or paper suggestion card and are selected by a committee of peers based upon impact to patient and employee experience, feasibility, and innovation. The Innovator Award celebrates the power of innovation in solving practical problems and enhancing the quality of care delivered at HRMC.
Freng has been employed at HRMC over two years. “I love when patients come back with a win after what we've done, big or little. It’s always important but seeing patients reach their goals or make progress towards goals is really exciting for me.”
Freng lives in Huron with her husband, Sam, and their four-year-old daughter Addilynn. Outside of work, she enjoys hunting, reading books and going on vacations.
