Health Community to Host HPV Documentary September 24
September 18, 2018
Huron, S.D. – The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) may be the most widespread, misunderstood and potentially dangerous epidemic that most people hardly know anything about, according to the producers of a documentary about the virus.
Someone You Love, which is narrated by Vanessa Williams and produced by Lumiere Media, reveals just how dangerous this virus can be, causing six different types of cancers in both men and women. Following five brave women’s stories who are afflicted by HPV and cervical cancer, the film also interviews some of the world’s top experts on the most common sexually transmitted infection in humans: HPV.
Huron Regional Medical Center in partnership with Beadle County Health staff and other medical providers is hosting a public showing of the film on Monday, September 24, from 5:45-8:00 p.m. in the Legacy Plaza Auditorium.
Dr. Elyse Brock, board-certified OB/Gyn at the Women's Wellness Center, and Dr. Jesse Van Heukelom, board-certified pediatrician at the HRMC Physicians Clinic, will host a question and answer session after the movie presentation. The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served. Middle and high school students and their families are especially encouraged to come and learn about recommended vaccination guidelines.
This public showing is made possible through a grant from the South Dakota Department of Health. For more information or to watch the trailer, visit www.hpvepidemic.com
