HRMC and Employees Contribute Nearly $22,000 to United Way
December 26, 2019
Huron, S.D. – The Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) board of directors recently voted to match employee contributions to donate a combined total of $21,670 to the 2020 United Way Heartland Region (UWHR) campaign, according to Dr. Elyse Brock, an OB/Gyn at HRMC’s Women’s Wellness Center who also serves on the UWHR board.
"The UWHR impacts our community in so many ways, including supporting and improving the health of the people who live here. From its contributions to People’s Transit, which helps many of our patients get to/from their appointments, to HRMC hospice, which provides care to patients with terminal diagnoses, the UWHR has been improving healthcare in Huron for many years,” said Dr. Brock. “Together we are contributing to the continued success of our community. I feel honored to be HRMC's physician representative on the United Way board and look forward to next year's campaign."
A team of HRMC employees hosted an internal drive kick-off event in October, complete with root beer floats and door prize drawings. Pledges were collected through November with help from Misty Sporrer from HRMC’s human resources, according to Dr. Brock.
“We are so thankful for our partnership with HRMC and for all those who have contributed to our campaign this year,” said UWHR executive director Jen Bragg. “These funds will go a long way towards improving the lives of so many in our region. So many programs in the area rely on UWHR funding for their annual budgets, and it is truly heart-warming to have so many people support them in our pledge drive.”
This year’s UWHR campaign goal is $330,000 and funds will help to support 45 different agencies. In addition, the UWHR supports 13 community impact programs and projects, including the Heartland Region Backpack Program, The Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Youth United Way-Huron Youth Leadership Program, the Delta Dental Bus, Day of Caring, Day of Action, Hunger Games, MENtors Volunteer Program, Volunteer Connections and four Born Learning Trails in our community.
“There’s still time to make your contribution to this year’s United Way Campaign and help us reach our goal,” said Bragg.Interested donors can contact the United Way office at 605-352-3537 or download a pledge card from at www.liveunitedhuron.com.
