November 04, 2019
Huron, S.D. – The Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Auxiliary hosted their annual membership luncheon Thursday, October 17, in the HRMC Legacy Plaza Auditorium.
During the luncheon, HRMC President and CEO David Dick updated the group on physician and healthcare worker recruitment, including efforts by the hospital and local nursing taskforce add a licensed practical nursing program, which starts in January 2020, at Huron Community Campus.
Dr. Todd Anderson, an orthopedic surgeon with the HRMC Physicians Clinic, shared a general overview of his orthopedic practice capabilities and answered questions ranging from osteoporosis care to total joint replacement.
Two department leaders expressed appreciation for recent equipment purchased by the auxiliary including: Cindy Thomas, RN, cardiac rehabilitation coordinator, who thanked members for their purchase of a new digital scale; and Stephanie Metzger, RN, emergency services director, who shared information about how their funds purchased a locked ER cart for quick access and patient safety.
Officers for the coming year were also installed at the event, including Jackie Spillum-president, Renee Goldammer and Bonnie Sheridan, co-vice presidents and membership chairs, Judy Tschetter-treasurer/gift shop/candy and Jackie Butler-secretary. Other members holding key responsibilities include: Diane Wipf-courtesy/calendars/menus, Pat Pomerico-plants and Shirley Magee-magazines.
The purpose of the Auxiliary is to promote and advance the welfare of HRMC by rendering service to patients and assisting with and contributing to charitable projects. As members of the Auxiliary, volunteers serve daily, providing refreshments and assistance in hospital lounges, assisting patients and visitors at the information desks, and delivering floral arrangements to patients. Auxiliary volunteers also manage and staff the hospital gift shops located in the main hospital and Central Tower lobbies. More volunteers are needed and encouraged to learn more.
Auxiliary funds are raised through annual events, gift shop/candy counter sales and membership dues. For more information on HRMC’s Auxiliary or to volunteer, contact HRMC at 605-353-6565 or online at www.huronregional.org/about-us.
