The Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) board of directors voted to again contribute $4,000 for the Salvation Army’s annual food drive, according to Erick Larson, HRMC president and CEO.
“As a community hospital, our mission is to take care of the health of our community – but we do not do that alone,” said Larson. “Good health isn’t about just medical care. The Christmas Basket food drive is another way we partner in the health of our community by providing food and gifts for those in our community who need a helping hand.”
Lieutenant Matt Darrow, Salvation Army, expressed his sincere appreciation. “We really appreciate the hospital for their help with the Christmas Baskets,” said Darrow. “This year we were able to help 64 households with baskets which provide not just a Christmas meal, but also enough food for the family to last through the Christmas and New Year holidays.
“Our goal is to make sure no child goes hungry during the holiday break and that every child has at least one gift under the tree through our Angel Tree program,” said Darrow. “We also provided gifts to 222 kids this week and we could not accomplish that goal without the incredible support from this community.”
In addition to the $4,000 monetary contribution, HRMC employees, medical staff and hospital and Foundation board members support the Christmas Basket program by donating the $15 in turkey bucks they receive as a Thanksgiving gift from the hospital to the Salvation Army program.
The Salvation Army Kettle program is still in full swing working to meet their goal of raising $27,200. Community members are encouraged to give what you can to help Darrrow and his team meet the needs. Bell ringers are at various locations from 10-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday for one more week. In addition, this year’s Christmas Basket program goal of $47,000 has not yet been met. If you made a pledge during the Christmas Basket program, or would like to donate, please stop by or mail your contribution to the Salvation Army.
