HRMC Foundation Awards $9,000 in Healthcare Scholarships

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Foundation announces the recipients of 12 scholarships totaling $9,000, according to Kathy Van Heukelom, board chair.
“Our purpose in providing these scholarships is to encourage students to pursue a career in a healthcare field and also encourage HRMC employees and their children in their educational pursuits,” said Van Heukelom. “Each year, we receive many qualified applicants and it is fun to learn about the plans and dreams of our future generation.”

- Madyson Rathjen, who is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in nursing at the University of South Dakota
- Caitlyn McNeil, who is pursuing a degree in pre-medicine at Texas A&M
- Jett McGirr, who is pursuing a degree in pre-physical therapy at the South Dakota State University
- Chelsea Hofer, who is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in nursing at Northwestern College
- Shannon Katz, who is pursuing a degree in pharmacy at South Dakota State University
- Chloe Miner, who is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in nursing from South Dakota State University
- Emily Lord, who is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Dakota Wesleyan University
- Samantha Dowling, who works as a nurse aide at HRMC and is the daughter of marketing specialist Stacie Dowling, is pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing from Northwestern College
- Zachary Heinen, who is the son of HRMC home health nurse Melissa Heinen, is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of South Dakota
- Gabe Rieger, who is the son of HRMC vice president of marketing Kim Rieger, is pursuing a degree in pre-chiropractic at the University of South Dakota
- Tyrese Theus, who works in food service at HRMC, is pursuing a diploma in practical nursing from Southeast Technical Institute
- Raegan Burke, who is the daughter of HRMC physical therapy assistant Kelly Burke, is pursuing a a diploma in practical nursing from Lake Area Technical Institute
“The HRMC Foundation Scholarship Program provides financial support to help ensure that the Huron area continues to have quality, dedicated healthcare staff,” explained Van Heukelom. “We sincerely appreciate our dedicated donors who make this scholarship program possible.”
In addition to these Interest level and Helping Hands family and employee scholarships, the board also awarded 13 Commitment scholarships to students from the region who have committed to work in the community after graduation. These recipients will be announced in the future.
