HRMC Honors Brandsrud as Exceptional Employee for February

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored its February Exceptional Employee of the Month, Diane Brandsrud, RN, with a small department celebration earlier this month.
Brandsrud, who has worked at HRMC for more than 23 years and currently works as a nurse in HRMC’s Birthing Center and as a nursing supervisor, was nominated by coworkers to receive the honor. According to the nomination, “Diane doesn’t need to tell anyone about her personal values because she lives them. They motivate her actions and are the guiding principles in her daily life both on and off the job.
“During an unexpected early morning medical emergency, staff called the supervisor on duty and when Diane arrived, she knew just what needed to be done and stepped in with concern and compassion,” the nomination continued. “Having Diane there to guide me helped me know what to say, walk through the paperwork and made the sad situation much easier to handle.”
HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s values of being accessible, helpful and knowledgeable. Employees can be nominated by other coworkers or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees.
As February exceptional employee, Brandsrud received a flower bouquet, a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.
Originally from Bismarck, North Dakota, Brandsrud earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Huron University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Augsburg in Minneapolis, Minn. She and her husband, Steve, who is the pastor at American Lutheran Church, have four children: Seth (Chloe), of Spearfish; Sam (Tia), of Sioux Falls; Micah, of Madison; and Abby a sophomore at Augustana University. They are expecting their first grandchild in May. In her spare time Brandsrud likes to read, spend time with family and travel.
