June 17, 2016
Huron, S.D. – Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored its June Exceptional Employee of the Month, Susan Fuerst, physical therapist, with a reception on Wednesday, June 8, 2016.
Fuerst, who has worked as a physical therapist in HRMC’s rehabilitation services for nearly three years, was nominated by coworkers to receive the honor. According to nominating coworkers, “Susan displays a positive, can-do attitude in the office with staff and in the gym with her patients to bring out the best in everyone she meets.
“She takes the initiative to provide education to staff on new treatment skills or to clarify a specific intervention with another therapist," the nomination continued. “Susan demonstrates excellent teamwork skills and is always willing to help other staff out in any way she can."
HRMC's Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to exceed expectations. Employees can be nominated by other employees or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees.
As June exceptional employee, Fuerst received a reception with family, friends and coworkers, a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.
Fuerst received a bachelor of arts degree in biology/health professions from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA. She completed a master of science degree in physical therapy at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. She is a member of the Vestibular Disorders Association. Prior to joining the HRMC team, she worked as a therapist at Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls, Wisc. She has worked as a physical therapist for nearly 16 years.
She lives in Huron with her husband Dean, who works at Hubbard Feeds, and their five children: Sarah, age 11; Anna, age 8; Jacob, age 5, Lydia, age 3 and Andrew age 3. In her spare time, Fuerst enjoys spending time with family, participating in church activities and reading.
