HRMC Honors Groon as Beyond Exceptional Employee
September 20, 2024
Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) recently honored Angie Groon, PTA, CLT, with the Beyond Exceptional Everyday (BEE) Award.
Groon, who has been employed at HRMC for almost two years, is a physical therapist assistant (PTA) at HRMC Pro Rehab’s south location on Dakota Avenue. She was nominated for the award by a colleague. The nomination stated, “Angie is consistently coming up with new exercise ideas for patients who may have severe functional limitations. Angie is a great teammate and is always keeping an eye out for ways in which she can help.”
Groon chose to be a PTA to help people of all ages. “What I like most about my job is the patient interaction, establishing that rapport, so I am better able to help my patients achieve their goals and be as successful in therapy as they can be. I'm also a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, which is truly my passion. It is so rewarding to see the improvement lymphedema treatment has made in my patients, not only in reducing the swelling, but also in decreasing pain and improving overall mobility,” said Groon.
HRMC’s BEE Award recognizes employees who go above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s core values of REACH by being respectful, engaged, available, competent, and helpful. Employees can be nominated by fellow coworkers or by patients or visitors who witness exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments select the BEE Award honoree on a quarterly basis.
As BEE Award recipient, Groon received a meal certificate to a local restaurant, $30 credit to the HRMC employee store, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, and a lapel pin.
Upon receiving the award, Groon expressed, “It is very humbling to receive the BEE Award, and to be recognized by my peers. I love my job, and I'm proud to have that passion acknowledged by all the wonderful things my coworkers and patients have said about me that resulted in my nomination and selection for this award.”
Groon was born and raised in Huron and now lives on an acreage north of Arlington with her husband Chris, their son Jake, dog Jinx and cat Grace. Their daughter Lydian lives in Sioux Falls with her husband Ezekial and their three cats. Outside of work, her hobbies include crocheting, canning, refurbishing furniture and hiking.
Patients or visitors can nominate caregivers and employees to receive recognition at huronregional.org/recognition-awards or by calling 605-353-6572.
