Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored its April Exceptional Employee of the Month, Carmen O’Neill, with a department reception earlier this month.
O’Neill, who has worked as a pharmacy technician at HRMC for nearly three years, was nominated by coworkers. “Kind, considerate, caring and diligent is how coworkers describe Carmen. Even on her busiest of days, interactions with her are sincere,” according to the nomination.
“She has a true thirst for learning and shares her knowledge and passion for her field, answering questions and addressing concerns as they arise without hesitation,” the nomination continued. “Carmen dives in headfirst when the department is busy and always steps up to lend a
helping hand or work extra weekends and shifts without complaint.”
HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s values of being accessible, helpful and knowledgeable. Employees can be nominated by other coworkers or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees by the HRMC board of directors.
As April exceptional employee, O’Neill, received a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.
Originally from Huron, O’Neill attended Mankato State University and the University of New Mexico, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the college of pharmacy.
In 2003, O’Neill returned to Huron with her husband, Kelly, who is a pharmacist at HRMC, to raise their family. They have three boys: Kelly Brendan, who is receiving his master’s degree in May, and Jaime and Jesse who both attend South Dakota State University.
In her spare time, she enjoys jogging and playing pickleball, which has supplanted her tennis playing. She also enjoys spending time with her family, attending Huron First United Methodist Church, when she doesn’t work on Sundays, and watching tennis on TV with her mom.
Patients or visitors can nominate an exceptional employee by calling 605-353-6539 for a nomination form or via e-mail at hr@huronregional.org.
