Huron, S.D. – Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year Judy Tschetter as part of the annual Auxiliary Recognition Luncheon on May 20, 2019, in the HRMC Legacy Plaza auditorium.
Tschetter is a dedicated volunteer who serves on the Auxiliary leadership team and recently achieved the milestone of 2,000 volunteer hours.
Jackie Spillum, who serves as co-president of the HRMC Auxiliary, announced Tschetter as this year’s winner, while her daughters waited in the wings to surprise her. Spillum described Tschetter as a very dedicated volunteer who in addition to her treasurer duties, volunteers weekly in the surgery lounge and manages the Auxiliary gift shop. Tschetter also volunteers in the community by serving at her church and painting fingernails at the nursing home. She loves going to HHS sporting events, watching the Timber Wolves and spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Spillum and her co-president, Renee Goldammer, also reported that volunteers donated 5,841 hours to the hospital during 2018 and recognized Auxiliary volunteers achieving service milestones with a commemorative pin and flowers.

co-presidents Goldammer and Spillum.
Also recognized, were three students who each received $1,000 in healthcare scholarships provided through money earned from the gift shop. Winners included Serena Cardona, who plans to study nursing at South Dakota State University; Darrian Hood, who plans to study human performance at Northern State University; and Alexis Glanzer, who will begin the registered nursing program at Lake Area Technical Institute. During the luncheon, David Dick, HRMC president and CEO, updated the group on activities happening at the hospital and thanked volunteers for their dedicated support.
The purpose of the Auxiliary is to promote and advance the welfare of HRMC by rendering service to patients and assisting with and contributing to charitable projects. As members of the Auxiliary, volunteers serve daily, providing refreshments and assistance in hospital lounges, assisting visitors at the information desks and delivering floral arrangements and newspapers to patients.
The Auxiliary also contributes to various projects at the hospital including equipment and furnishings. Funds are raised through annual events, gift shop/candy counter sales and membership dues. The group is always looking for more volunteers to help for a couple hours a week or whenever is convenient for the volunteer – men and women are welcome.
