HRMC Hospice Volunteers to be Celebrated at Appreciation Tea Tuesday
April 25, 2016
Huron, S.D. – In recognition of National Volunteer Month, Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is celebrating the gifts of time and talent that volunteers selflessly share with hospice patients with a volunteer appreciation tea this Tuesday, April 26, at 3:00 p.m.
“Our hospice volunteers give selflessly to help patients facing end of life issues,” According to Karen Decker, RN, HRMC Hospice volunteer coordinator. “HRMC Community Hospice relies on their generosity to help us deliver compassion and support to those facing end-of-life.”
Even when a person is dying, there can be a lot of living to do and hospice makes it possible by brining care, compassion and hope to patients and families facing life-limiting illness. More than 1.6 million Americans receive the care of hospice every year.
“Right here in our community, 16 trained volunteers support people during the journey at life’s end and make the mission of HRMC community Hospice possible,” said Decker. “I am so thankful for the work of our hospice volunteers,” said Decker. “We truly couldn’t do it without you!”
Hospice volunteers spend time at the bedside, help out family caregivers, participate with outreach efforts, assist in the office, provide fundraising support and much more. They give of themselves to make life better for others. More volunteers are always welcome – both men and women are invited and encouraged to share their talents.
Most hospice volunteers choose to give of their time helping others because of their own experiences with the compassionate care hospice provided to their dying loved one.
HRMC Community Hospice uses a team of physicians, nurses, clergy, social workers, aides and volunteers, along with the patient and family members, to provide pain-management, symptom control, emotional and social services support, and spiritual care.
To become a hospice volunteer, contact Karen Decker, RN, at 353-6520 or attend the next hospice volunteer appreciation tea on April 26 at 3 p.m. in classroom 107 of the HRMC Legacy Plaza. More information about all of HRMC’s volunteer opportunities is available online at www.huronregional.org,
