HRMC Physicians Clinic to hold walk-in Measles Vaccine Clinic
July 14, 2025
In response to the recent measles outbreak in South Dakota, Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Physicians Clinic will host a measles vaccine clinic on Wednesday, July 30 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The clinics are open to all patients ages six months and older.
The MMR vaccine can reduce the risk of developing measles in exposed individuals. Vaccination is a safe and effective way to protect yourself and your loved ones from measles, a highly contagious and potentially serious illness. With confirmed cases in South Dakota, HRMC encourages community members to stay up to date on their immunizations to help prevent further spread.
The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is typically administered to infants at 12-15 months of age, however, infants traveling internationally or those living in an area with an active measles outbreak can receive the vaccine as early as six-months. Individuals born before 1957 are considered naturally immune to the measles due to exposure.
Insurance is accepted for the vaccine, and most plans, including Medicaid and private insurance, cover measles vaccinations and boosters. Medicare patients are advised to contact their pharmacy for MMR vaccination due to Medicare Part D coverage.
“We urge everyone to take the threat of measles seriously,” said Dr. Sean Schooley, pediatrician at the HRMC Physicians Clinic. “Vaccination is the best defense we have to keep our community healthy. Consider that vaccination is not just for any one of us — it is for our family, our friends, and our neighbors. The most effective way to prevent rapid spread is to have fewer available hosts. There are some who cannot receive the vaccine, but are at serious risk of infection, complications, and death, and the only way to protect them is for the community around them to be vaccinated."
If you suspect you have been exposed to measles, be sure to self-isolate and call your health care provider for advice.
Appointments for the measles vaccination clinic are not required. Call the HRMC Physicians Clinic at 605-353-7660 for more information, to find a care provider.
