Huron, S.D. – October is Breast Cancer Prevention and Awareness month. To promote the importance of early detection activities, Huron Regional Medical Center is participating in several awareness activities.
Friday, October 5, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Prostrollo Motor Sales is hosting the second annual 1-Mile Walk for Breast Cancer at Ravine Lake. Community members are invited to this come-and-go walk around Ravine Lake to raise awareness and funds to prevent breast cancer through the HRMC Foundation We’ve Got You Covered program. Pre-register at Prostrollo’s for a free goodie bag.
Thursday, October 18, 5-8 p.m., Runnings Farm & Fleet is hosting a Ladies’ Night Out. Purchase a pink bucket for $2 to receive 15 percent off regular price items that fit in the bucket, plus enjoy raffles, refreshments and other vendors. HRMC mammography staff will be on-hand providing early detection information and scheduling mammograms. A portion of the proceeds from the evening will benefit HRMC’s We’ve Got You Covered mammogram program.
Tuesday, October 23, 7 p.m., Pink Out Volleyball against Mitchell at the Huron Arena. Huron High School volleyball players will also be selling pink “We Can, We Will – Conquer” t-shirts to be worn to the game with funds benefitting the We’ve Got You Covered program.
All area women are encouraged to help fight breast cancer by having regular mammograms. The We’ve Got You Covered program helps by offering free screening mammograms to women in need. Women between the ages of 40-64 or under the age of 40 with an increased risk who have not had a mammogram in one year and do not have insurance that covers a mammogram are eligible to receive a free mammogram thanks to generous HRMC Foundation donors and partnerships like those happening this October.
