Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is pleased to welcome Yukiko Brewer, MD, to the medical staff as a hospitalist, providing comprehensive inpatient care for hospitalized patients.
Yukiko Brewer, MD
Hospitalist
Dr. Brewer brings a unique background to medicine. She earned her bachelor's degree in education from the University of South Florida and taught kindergarten before deciding to pursue a career as a physician. She completed post-baccalaureate coursework through the University of South Florida and Arizona State University before earning her medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital.
"My path to medicine wasn't traditional, but every step reinforced my passion for helping people," said Dr. Brewer. "I'm excited to begin my career at HRMC and care for patients in a community that has been so welcoming."
As a hospitalist, Dr. Brewer believes excellent patient care goes beyond treating a medical condition. She strives to care for the whole person by understanding each patient's support system and the factors that may affect their recovery after leaving the hospital.
"When someone is hospitalized, they're often experiencing one of the most difficult times in their life, and their family is going through it with them," said Dr. Brewer. "Providing high-quality medical care is essential, but it's also important to understand the challenges patients may face outside the hospital. Taking the time to address those needs helps set patients up for the best possible recovery."
Outside of work, Dr. Brewer enjoys spending time with her husband, three children and her mother, who recently relocated with the family to Huron. She enjoys baking, cooking, tackling hands-on home projects and learning new skills. As she settles into the community, she looks forward to discovering new hobbies and becoming involved in local activities.
"I believe it's important to treat everyone with kindness," she said. "Healthcare can be challenging for patients and families, and sometimes compassion, a smile or even a little laughter can make a meaningful difference."
Hospitalists specialize in the care of hospitalized patients, coordinating treatment, communicating with patients and families, and working closely with specialists and the care team to ensure a seamless hospital stay.
