HRMC's We've Got You Covered Offers Free Mammograms
October 12, 2017
Huron, S.D. – Huron Regional Medical Center’ We’ve Got You Covered a program is designed to increase the number of women receiving regular mammograms through awareness activities and free mammograms.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will get breast cancer. More women in South Dakota are impacted by breast cancer than in the nation and the breast cancer incidence rate in HRMC’s seven-county service area is higher than in other areas of the state, according to a report by Susan G. Komen-South Dakota. The report also indicates that of women age 40 and over who live in HRMC’s service area, 39 to 45 percent had not received a screening mammogram in the p 12 months. The goal of the We’ve Got You Covered program is to decrease those figures.
Women between the ages of 40-64 or under the age of 40 with an increased risk who have not had a mammogram in two years and do not have insurance that covers a mammogram are eligible to receive a free mammogram thanks to the generous donations of area residents to the HRMC Foundation.
