Huron Nursing Program Students Eligible for Build Dakota Funds
February 28, 2019
HURON, SD – Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for students pursuing a licensed practical nurse to registered nurse (LPN to RN) associate degree in Huron, according to Brooke Sydow, EdD, HRMC workforce program developer.
The Build Dakota Scholarship Fund was created to give students an incentive to pursue a degree in a high-need technical field for the exchange of their commitment to work in South Dakota for three years.
“Students accepted into the Huron LPN to RN program are eligible to receive a full-ride scholarship, which includes a Build Dakota scholarship along with funds from a sponsoring local healthcare facility,” said Sydow. “Area partners sponsor half of a full-ride scholarship and commit to hiring the student upon successful completion of the degree, which in turn helps the facility’s workforce. It’s a win-win opportunity for all parties involved!”
“Students are not only able to complete the program locally, but with these scholarships, 100 percent of tuition, fees, books and supplies are covered,” said Sydow. “The HRMC Foundation and Southeast Technical Institute are giving students the tools, resources and opportunities necessary to successfully earn their degree and start a thriving career.”
Current LPNs with 750 hours of experience are eligible to apply for the program, which includes taking online classes through Southeast Technical Institute and completing labs and clinicals at Huron Community Campus (HCC) and local healthcare facilities.
Students interested in this associate nursing degree should first apply and be accepted to the LPN to RN program, and then apply for a Build Dakota scholarship by March 30, 2019. It is important to start the application process as soon as possible to ensure completion of all pre-entrance requirements.
More information about registering for the program is available online at www.southeasttech.edu or by calling 605-367-6114. Scholarship information is available by calling Sydow at 605-353-6323. Listen to a podcast about the LPN to RN program featuring Brooke Sydow.
