Kling Recognized as HRMC Innovator of the Quarter

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) recently selected Sydney Kling to receive the Innovator of the Quarter Award.
Kling, who works in the billing department, identified an opportunity to create a more convenient and inclusive experience for families visiting HRMC. Her suggestion was to install a baby changing table in a men's restroom, providing dads and other caregivers with a designated space to care for their children without having to wait outside a women's restroom. Kling came up with the idea after seeing a father and his daughter waiting outside the women's restroom so he could use the changing station for his daughter.
While changing tables are available in some men's restrooms at HRMC, they are not available in every public restroom. Thanks to Kling's suggestion, the next men's restroom to receive a changing table will be in the Central Towers building. The addition will provide a helpful amenity in another public area of the hospital and make it more convenient for fathers and other caregivers visiting HRMC.
“I was very shocked but I am happy this is being taken into consideration!” Kling said of being selected for the award.
Each quarter, the Innovator Award is presented and celebrated, indicating eligibility for an annual Innovator of the Year Award. Ideas are submitted by employees via online form or paper suggestion card and are selected by a committee of peers based upon impact to patient and employee experience, feasibility, and innovation. The Innovator Award celebrates the power of innovation in solving practical problems and enhancing the quality of care delivered at HRMC.
Kling said she appreciates the teamwork and respect she experiences within her department and throughout HRMC.
“I really value that our department sees multiple aspects as to when you come to HRMC. We have registration, scheduling, the switchboard and the billing department which is where I stand, but I feel that we all work really well together and that since we all have a different role but yet it knowingly affects one another, there's a level of respect that you feel that everyone is doing their best to help out one another,” she said.
Kling lives outside of Hitchcock with her husband and daughter. Together, they care for approximately 80 head of cattle. In their free time, they enjoy traveling to the Black Hills or visiting Kling's family in Florida.
