HURON, S.D. – Huron Regional Medical Center announces the addition of Corey Knox, a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), to the HRMC surgical staff, according to Gail Robeson, RN, BSN, vice president of patient services.
Knox, who is also a registered nurse, began his role in earlier this month replacing Mike Melmer, CRNA, who retired after many years of dedicated service. As a CRNA at HRMC, Knox performs anesthesia management of patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in addition to airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CRNAs also administer epidural medication for pain management.
“I am pleased to welcome Corey to HRMC,” said Robeson. “His knowledge and nursing experiences are an excellent addition to our team of surgeons, nurses, technicians and nurse anesthetists.”
Knox recently graduated from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, N.D., with a master of science in nurse anesthesia. He completed clinical rotations in Altru Health System in Grand Forks; Riverview Health in Crookston, Minn.; and Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D. His clinic practice included performing anesthesia services for orthopedic, OB/GYN, ENT, pediatric, vascular, neurology, plastic, ophthalmic, thoracic and general surgical cases.
Originally from Ogden, Utah, Knox later moved with his family to Montana where he received his bachelor of science in nursing from Montana State University in Bozeman. He started his career as an oncology nurse at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena, Montana. After completing an internship in cardiothoracic nursing at Oregon Health Science University, Knox returned to St. Peter’s and worked as an ICU charge nurse for 10 years, obtaining his Critical Care RN (CCRN) certification.
Knox and his wife, Paula, have two daughters; Makayla, age 9, and Audrey, age 6. The family is in the process of relocating to Huron from Montana.
