August 14, 2023
Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced Emily Konczol, LPN, as a recipient of the DAISY Award.
Konczol works in the HRMC dialysis department and was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient. “Emily seems to go above and beyond for her patients,” stated the nomination. “She is willing to go help her co-workers when needed to.”
Emily has provided care for patients and their families as an HRMC dialysis nurse for over two years. She shared her inspiration to become a nurse, “My mother got sick years ago and I wanted to treat her. Since then, I chose to become a nurse.”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at age 33 of complications from an auto-immune disease to honor his memory and thank nurses who provide exceptional compassion and kindness to patients.
Konczol moved to the United States from Hungary 25 years ago. She pursued nursing school in Texas where she earned her degree in licensed practical nursing. She has worked in dialysis throughout her nursing career.
Konczol is the fourth DAISY Award winner at HRMC, with one nurse recognized each quarter. The department and shift of the award winner receives fresh cinnamon rolls to celebrate, as requested by the family of Barnes. Nominees for each quarter also receive a pin recognizing their compassion and care. Nominations may be submitted by staff, visitors, providers and patients, with forms available throughout the hospital and online at www.huronregional.org/daisy-awards. More information about the DAISY Award can be found online at www.DaisyFoundation.org.
