Korkow Recognized with DAISY Award at HRMC
September 19, 2025
Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced Tarryn Korkow, RN, as the most recent recipient of the DAISY Award.
Korkow, a nurse in the surgery department, exemplifies the compassion and excellence recognized by the DAISY Award. She was nominated for the award by a patient who wrote, “I came to HRMC for a procedure and was very nervous to be put under general anesthesia. Tarryn was so kind and compassionate for my sensitive situation.” The nomination continued, “After surgery, when I opened my eyes, I saw her and felt her holding my hand. That was the most comforting feeling, knowing she was there and cared enough for me as a patient to hold my hand and to comfort me as I woke up. She showed exceptional compassion towards me and made me feel safe during a scary time. HRMC has exceptional patient care thanks to the wonderful nurses who work there.”
Korkow reflects on her nursing career as she shares how the profession has shaped her values and passion for making a difference, “Nursing has been a big part of my life for the last 15 years. It has taught me compassion and empathy and has given me a true appreciation for life and health. My favorite part about nursing is who I share it with, and the opportunity we are given to make a difference in so many lives. I work alongside some of the best healthcare workers around, and we make it a priority every day to ensure that our patients have the most positive experience they can — whether it be the best day of their lives, the scariest, or just simply routine. It is such a special role,” said Korkow.
Upon receiving the DAISY Award, Korkow expressed, “Any nurse will tell you; we don't do this job for recognition or accolades. However, it feels pretty incredible to join a group of DAISY honorees, and I'm so thankful that someone felt I was deserving. For me, it validates that what I do every day truly does matter.”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at age 33 of complications from an auto-immune disease to honor his memory and thank nurses who provide exceptional compassion and kindness to patients.
Korkow lives outside of Huron with her husband Adam, and their two boys, Oakley (12) and Audi (10). In her free time, she enjoys following her boy’s sporting events, spending time with family, working out, family trips and anything outdoors!
Korkow is the twelfth DAISY Award winner at HRMC, with one nurse recognized each quarter. The department and shift of the award winner receive fresh cinnamon rolls to celebrate, as requested by the Barnes family. Nominees for each quarter also receive a pin recognizing their compassion and care. Nominations may be submitted by staff, visitors, providers and patients, with forms available throughout the hospital and online at www.huronregional.org/recognition-awards.
