KSFY's Courtney Collen to Host SD Women's Expo Saturday
October 24, 2018
Huron, S.D – KSFY Television’s Courtney Collen will again emcee the SD Women’s Expo this Sat., October 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Nordby Exhibit Hall on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.
Collen, who joined KSFY in January 2011, is originally from Scottsdale, Ariz. and is a proud, second-generation graduate of the University of Arizona. As emcee, she will be on-hand throughout the day to interact with attendees and introduce the various speakers and entertainment available at the event.
In keeping with last year’s theme to “Rise Above,” two keynote speakers will share their personal journeys of courage and hope with Expo attendees. Luke Nelson, an anti-bullying speaker from Minnesota, shares his story of surviving a stroke before birth and how he overcame being the target of bullying. These struggles pushed Luke to contemplate suicide in high school – but his and his parents’ faith, along with his determination and values, drove him to continue living so that he could help others.
In the afternoon “Rise Above” presentation, Huron native Jennifer Funk Hiles will recount her experience living with arteriovenous malformation that has progressed for decades, affecting her appearance and endangering her physical health. Collen and Hiles will talk on stage about how the surgeries Hiles has undergone in the last several years led her to learn our confidence must come from the inside.
Back again this year is a Princess Party for little girls age four and older. And, new this year is Family Feud-Girlfriend Style, which pits two groups of five girlfriends against each other in a contest to guess the most popular responses to survey questions.
Throughout the day, women are invited to pamper themselves with a manicure or pedicure in the day spa; take a break in the relaxation area while sipping a glass of wine or beer, get creative with DIY projects and enjoy a little “retail therapy” as they stroll through the exhibit hall filled with merchandise from a wide variety of vendors. Huron Regional Medical Center and other community health providers invite attendees to loosen up and learn with a free mini-massage, free blood pressure, skin damage and osteoporosis screenings, mini cooking demonstrations, a flu clinic, colorectal cancer screening kits, and interactive information on how to live healthier.
General admission tickets to the Expo are $15. VIP tickets are $25 and include express registration, lunch pick-up and seating and a Pampering Perks card for special gifts. Princess Party tickets are $15 with the purchase of an Expo ticket. Tickets are available at the State Fair office, online at www.sdwomensexpo.com and at the door on Saturday.
