Larson Joins HRMC as Chief Information Officer

Huron, S.D. – Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is pleased to announce Erick Larson has been named Chief Information Officer (CIO) according to Marcia Zwanziger, senior vice president of finance/CFO for HRMC.
Larson, who started his new role on January 13, is responsible for ensuring the streamlined operation of the Information Services (IS) department in alignment with the business objectives of HRMC. He plans, coordinates and directs the IS team to provide technology solutions that lead to improved patient, provider and staff satisfaction. Larson also serves as the hospital’s Security Officer developing and overseeing security policies, standards, guidelines and procedures to protect and secure hospital and patient information.
“Erick has been here just a short time and his passion and dedication to rural health care are apparent by his guiding us in preparation for implementing a new electronic health record (EHR),” said Zwanziger. “I’m confident he will continue the dedicated IS leadership and services that reflect our values of being accessible, helpful and knowledgeable.”
A Chief Information Officer since 2000, Larson has demonstrated strong leadership in a multi-hospital system, critical access hospitals and clinics. He has extensive experience with strategic planning and execution, IT strategy and business analytics/decision support. His prior experience as project manager for CPSI to Cerner EHR conversion will provide in-house expertise and support for HRMC.
Larson earned a Master of Business Administration degree in healthcare administration through Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah. His undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in business administration, was completed at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho.
“I’m excited to take on the challenge of working with our IS team to lead HRMC through the upcoming EHR conversion,” said Larson. “I’ve really enjoyed meeting with my fellow teammates and am impressed with the passion and desire they have to care for this community.”
Larson and his wife, Nicola, recently moved to Huron from Juneau, Alaska, where they have lived for the last two years. Prior to living in Alaska, they spent 23 years in Oregon where he worked for Health Care for the Mid-Columbia Region. They have two grown children and in his spare time, Larson enjoys being in the outdoors with his dog Nala.
