October 22, 2018
Huron, S.D. – Dedicated to helping women put the focus back on their own health, Huron Regional Medical Center will present a wide variety of health topics and screenings at the SD Women’s Expo, which will be held on Saturday, October 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Nordby Exhibit Hall on the SD State Fairgrounds.
This year, women are invited to take time to de-stress and learn how to put their own health at the top of their to-do list. HRMC and other community health providers invite attendees to loosen up and learn with a massage garden; free blood pressure, skin damage and osteoporosis screenings; mini cooking demonstrations; Coborn’s flu shot clinic; and interactive information on how to live healthier. Special medical presentations include:
9:15-9:45 a.m. – KETO 101: Is It Right for You? Huron Regional Medical Center Stage - Dr. Wayne Carr, chiropractor with Carr Chiropractic Clinic, will provide information about the ketogenic diet and its uses for weight loss and managing other health conditions.
12:00-12:30 p.m. – Let’s Get Active – Motion Is Lotion, Huron Regional Medical Center Stage (lunch will be served) - Lori Welch, HRMC physical therapist, will share information on common barriers to exercise and the benefits of regular activity along with tips and tricks to work activity into your daily schedule and set realistic goals.
1:00-1:15 p.m. – Cupping with Carrs, Kwik Tip Korner sponsored by Huron Clinic - Dr. Joe Carr and Taylor Binger will demonstrate cupping and explain the benefits for healing and pain relief.
2:15-2:45 p.m. – Take Charge of Your Health: Cancer Prevention, Huron Regional Medical Center Stage - Sadie Hansen and Rita Sanem of the Avera Cancer Navigation Center will present information on general cancer screening and prevention with an emphasis on colorectal cancer screening. Free FIT (Fecal Immunochemical Test) tests will be made available as an alternative colorectal cancer screening.
Celebrating October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HRMC’s medical imaging staff will be on-hand sharing information about the HRMC Foundation’s We’ve Got You Covered, a program to increase the number of women receiving regular mammograms through awareness activities and free mammograms.
Women between the ages of 40-64 who have not had a mammogram in one year or women under age 40 with a higher risk of breast cancer and do not have insurance that covers a mammogram are eligible to receive a free mammogram thanks to the generous donations to the HRMC Foundation. In addition to sharing information and scheduling mammograms at the event, the medical imaging staff will be hosting a “Pink Photo Booth.” All women are invited to stop by and don some fun pink accessories and pose for a selfie with all your besties.
While learning about their health, women will be invited to take a rest and enjoy a free mini-massage (11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.), and a complimentary glass of fruit-infused water.
SD Women’s Expo ticket information is available at www.SDWomensExpo.com. General admission tickets are just $15 and VIP tickets are $25. Tickets will be available at the event.
