McCaskell-Styer Recognized with DAISY Award at HRMC
November 15, 2025
Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced Lindsey McCaskell-Styer, RN, as the most recent recipient of the DAISY Award.
McCaskell-Styer, a registered nurse on the medical floor, exemplifies the compassion and excellence recognized by the DAISY Award. She was nominated by a total of five patients for the award. One patient noted, “Lindsay was very friendly, compassionate, caring, comforting, reassuring, uplifting, informative, responsive and overall, a positive blessing in care providing. A definite asset to the health care team in the hospital.”
McCaskell-Styer reflects on her nursing journey, sharing how the profession has shaped her values and fueled her passion for making a difference, “I love helping people, even if they just need somebody to talk to or being an ear for them. Even if it's just putting a Band-Aid on a cut, assisting a doctor, or helping patients feel at ease. I cannot tell you how much that warms my heart.”
Upon receiving the DAISY Award, McCaskell-Styler expressed, “I cried. It was humbling and very overwhelming, even if it was just one nomination, but there were multiple and it was very nice to hear. It made me feel like I am in the right profession.”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at age 33 of complications from an auto-immune disease to honor his memory and thank nurses who provide exceptional compassion and kindness to patients.
McCaskell-Styer lives on a farm south of Hitchcock with her husband, Alex. She credits her family as her greatest supporters, saying, “My mom and dad, Jacque and Scott, my brother Trevor and his daughter Haelyn, and my husband are my rocks and biggest cheerleaders.” In her free time, she enjoys spending time with the cows on the farm, listening to music, cleaning, and going on drives.
McCaskell-Styer is the thirteenth DAISY Award winner at HRMC, with one nurse recognized each quarter. The department and shift of the award winner receive fresh cinnamon rolls to celebrate, as requested by the Barnes family. Nominees for each quarter also receive a pin recognizing their compassion and care. Nominations may be submitted by staff, visitors, providers and patients, with forms available throughout the hospital and online at www.huronregional.org/recognition-awards.
