April 22, 2019
Huron, S.D. – Stephanie Metzger, RN, is the new director of emergency and outpatient treatment services for Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC), according to Gail Robeson, RN, HRMC vice president of patient services.
Metzger, who is no stranger to HRMC having worked as an ER and outpatient treatment nurse since 2007, began her new role March 11. Metzger directs, plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates the activities of HRMC’s emergency and outpatient treatment nursing services.
“I am pleased to welcome Stephanie to her new role as department director,” said Robeson. “Stephanie is a visionary leader who will challenge the status quo and lead her team with changes, which will create an exceptional experience for every patient who enters our doors.”
She has extensive healthcare and leadership experience, most recently as the administrator of StoneyBrook Suites Assisted Living in Huron since 2011. In addition to leading and managing the 45-bed assisted living facility, she worked with residents through admission and discharge and provided care, when needed.
“I’m learning new things each day, and I have had amazing support from HRMC’s leadership team,” said Metzger, “I have been employed with HRMC for about 12 years now and being familiar with HRMC and the ER team made the transition to my new role very smooth.”
Metzger earned an associate of arts degree in nursing from Dakota Wesleyan University in 2006. She is currently pursuing a bachelor of nursing degree. In addition to her experience as a nurse at HRMC, she has provided homecare services and worked as a nurse at Avera Weskota Medical Center in Wessington Springs.
“Our biggest goal is for everyone in our community to have equal access to health care. We are here for our community, to serve our patients and provide excellent patient care,” Metzger said. “I would also like us to be more involved in promoting healthy living in our community. Community and patient education is a vital part of health care as a whole.”
Having been born and raised here in Huron, the majority of Metzger’s extended family also lives here. She and her husband Matt, who owns and operates Masters Handyman Service, have six children together: Kayla (17), Hannah (11), London (11), Olivia (9), Madyson (8), and Cruz (7). In her spare time, she enjoys snowmobiling, camping, spending time at the lake and following her children’s activities.
