New CT at HRMC First in Region
May 29, 2024
Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced installation of the uCT ATLAS Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner. The new CT scanner is optimized for exceptional image quality at faster speeds, with an ultra-wide opening and greatly expanded weight capacity.
United Imaging, a global leader in manufacturing advanced medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment, confirmed HRMC is the first customer to complete installation in South Dakota and one of few in the region.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to offer this world class CT technology to our patients,” said Lexy Sharon, director of medical imaging at HRMC. “Our team spent considerable time looking for the right CT scanner with the best technology currently available.”
The uCT ATLAS features an integrated uAI Vision 3D camera, which enables AI empowered workflow to make the most complex exams quick and simple to perform. The .25 second rotation provides ultra-fast imaging, making CT scans faster and easier, even for pediatric and trauma patients. The robust coronary CT solution allows for advanced cardiac CT and the scanner provides wider capability to accommodate all sizes with an 82 centimeter opening, up from 70 centimeters in the previous CT, as well as a 700 pound weight capacity.
The uCT is a 160-slice scanner, capturing 160 slices of data per rotation, an increase from the previous 64-slice scanner. The uCT ATLAS provides high-quality exceptional images at a personalized, low dose of radiation for each patient. The scanner also comes with software upgrades for life to always keep the most modern software available.
Kevin Hofer, MD, orthopedic surgeon at the HRMC Physicians Clinic, is excited for the upgrade. “It’s an excellent addition and I’m thrilled to have this caliber of advanced CT imagery available,” said Hofer. “We use CT imaging in shoulder arthroplasty and also in preparing our total hip and total knee patients for robotic assisted surgery to create a 3D model of the patient’s anatomy, helping the surgeon to identify the size, alignment and orientation of the implant based on each patient’s unique anatomy.”
A CT scan, also known as a CAT scan, is a diagnostic imaging exam that uses X-rays to create detailed images of the inside of the body. CT scans can be used for many reasons including diagnosing disease, assessing trauma, locating injuries, monitoring progress, and planning procedures. Visit huronregional.org for more information.
