New Obstetrics and Gynecology Physician Joins HRMC Medical Staff
August 19, 2016
Huron, S.D. – Elyse Brock, M.D., an obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) physician joined the Huron Regional Medical Center medical staff on August 1, 2016.
A native of Huron, Dr. Brock practices with Dr. Sara Castellanos, board-certified OB/GYN, in the Women’s Wellness Center, located at 142 Third Street SE. As a general OB/GYN, Dr. Brock provides a wide range of services, including well-women exams, preconception counseling, prenatal care, vaginal and cesarean deliveries, post-partum care, infertility treatment and procedures such as hysterectomy and endometrial ablation.
Dr. Brock, who is the daughter of Tom and Kelli McFarland, grew up wanting to be a physician and was recruited by HRMC during medical school. “I wanted to come back to Huron for several reasons: to be close to my family and my husband Troy’s family, to raise my three children in a close-knit community and to improve access to women’s health care in this area,” explained Dr. Brock. “I love so many things about Huron, including being able to get anywhere in five minutes!”
She completed her residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics earlier this year. She received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Brock earned a bachelor of arts degree with majors in both biology and family studies and a minor in biomedical sciences from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
Dr. Brock has specialized training in gynecologic and early obstetric ultrasound and plans to host outreach clinics in surrounding communities.
She and her husband, Troy, live in Huron with their three children Oliver, age 6, Evelyn, age 4 and Leo, 11 months. In her spare time, Dr. Brock enjoys reading and spending time outside with her family and restoring the home they purchased in Huron’s Historic District.
“I feel truly blessed to be back in Huron,” said Dr. Brock. “I hope my return will make it possible for more women to seek care locally.”
