Olinger Recognized with DAISY Award at HRMC

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced Abby Olinger, LPN, as the most recent recipient of the DAISY Award.
Olinger, a licensed practical nurse at HRMC Physicians Clinic, exemplified extraordinary compassion and care, inspiring a patient’s family to nominate her for the DAISY Award. The nomination stated, “Abby is constantly taking amazing care of me and all of my children. She comforted my son during one of our hardest clinic visits, which helped keep me calm as well. She checks in on him often. I truly feel that she loves and adores him and my girls as her own.” The nomination continued, “She speaks in a way that's calming, reassuring, and nonjudgmental. She constantly listens and takes in as much information as possible and never makes me feel dismissed.”
Olinger's dedication to her patients goes beyond clinical care, as she shared, “I enjoy creating a relationship with the children I care for and their parents.”
Upon receiving the DAISY Award, Olinger expressed, “I'm extremely surprised. I was not expecting it and I don't expect to be rewarded as I was just doing my job.”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at age 33 of complications from an auto-immune disease to honor his memory and thank nurses who provide exceptional compassion and kindness to patients.
Olinger lives in Woonsocket with her husband, Drew, and their two children Ivy (2) and Callum (9 mo.). In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, helping where she can on the farm, and cooking.
Olinger is the fifteenth DAISY Award winner at HRMC, with one nurse recognized each quarter. The department and shift of the award winner receive fresh cinnamon rolls to celebrate, as requested by the Barnes family. Nominees for each quarter also receive a pin recognizing their compassion and care. Nominations may be submitted by staff, visitors, providers and patients, with forms available throughout the hospital and online at www.huronregional.org/recognition-awards.
