Olson Joins HRMC Physicians Clinic Care Team

Susan Olson, CNP/PA-C, joined the care team at HRMC Physicians Clinic on October 1, 2024, according to Destiny Finn, RN, CPHQ, vice president of quality and risk management for HRMC.
“We’re elated to welcome Susan back to Huron and to our team of clinicians,” said Finn, who oversees advanced practice provider staff at HRMC Physicians Clinic. “Susan’s experience and outlook on rural patient care is invaluable in providing comprehensive primary care for our community.”

Olson will care for adolescents and adults and will work to ensure continuity of care for patients who have previously been seen by Doreen Boomsma, CNP, who will retire from primary care later this year. With a holistic approach to care and an emphasis on individual patients, Olson combines traditional medicine with lifestyle modification and self-management to give patients the tools they need to successfully manage their conditions.
“My approach is to look at the whole patient, not just identify individual issues because even though we are all similar in anatomy, we may be very different in our medical and physiologic needs,” said Olson.
Having previously served patients in the HRMC emergency department and at Tschetter & Hohm Clinic from 2006-2013, Olson most recently cared for patients in primary and emergency care at the Sioux Falls VA.
A passion for rural health care and the desire to be closer to her aging mother, Olson chose to return to Huron. “I am really impressed with the outside resources, specialties and services HRMC provides to the community. It is one of the more outstanding settings I’ve seen in rural care across South Dakota and I’m excited to be back,” said Olson.
Olson completed her advanced practice provider education from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and subsequently took both her certified nurse practitioner and physician assistant board exams, earning dual certification.
A native of Wessington Springs, South Dakota, Olson has returned to her home community where her mother resides. She is a mother of four children and grandmother of eleven grandchildren ranging from three to 14 years old. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities, golf, reading and spending time with her animals.
