Pitman Recognized as HRMC Innovator of the Quarter

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) recently selected Michelle Pitman to receive the Innovator of the Quarter Award.
Pitman, who works in hospital and ER admissions, identified an opportunity to improve comfort and convenience for patients and families in one of the most stressful areas of our hospital, the emergency room waiting area. Her idea was simple, yet impactful, providing access to a microwave and coffee machine within the ER waiting space. Currently, patients and family members often rely on staff or are directed to other areas when they need to heat food or obtain a hot beverage. This innovative solution enhances independence for visitors and creates a more welcoming and supportive environment during difficult moments.
Pitman, who works in the ER area frequently, didn’t make the suggestion for the award recognition, “I just thought it would be best for the patients. It's just a matter of having that convenience for the patients and visitors.”
Each quarter, the Innovator Award is presented and celebrated, indicating eligibility for an annual Innovator of the Year Award. Ideas are submitted by employees via online form or paper suggestion card and are selected by a committee of peers based upon impact to patient and employee experience, feasibility, and innovation. The Innovator Award celebrates the power of innovation in solving practical problems and enhancing the quality of care delivered at HRMC.
Pitman has been at HRMC for nearly four years. “My favorite part about my job is the patient interaction. Getting to know patients on a one-on-one basis, whether in admissions or the emergency room, is important to me. It allows me to assist with their needs and provide comfort.” She continued, “I know when my significant other was here as a patient, it was comforting knowing that someone was there looking in on me to make sure that I was okay.”
Pitman resides in Huron where she loves to read, craft and spend time with her grandchildren.
