Rebecca McCaskell Named Case Manager for HRMC
December 16, 2019
Huron, S.D. – Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is pleased to announce Rebecca McCaskell, family nurse practitioner (FNP), has accepted the role of case manager, according to Amy Goergen, RN, BSN, director of inpatient services for HRMC.
This new position has been created to extend the medical care provided by physicians to adult inpatients on the medical floor at the hospital. As case manager, McCaskell assists in overall coordination of patient care through assessment, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the services and resources to meet patient needs.
“Becca will work to improve practices, standards and protocols to create an environment where each part of the care team uses their individual strengths and abilities to best care for our patients,” explained Goergen.
McCaskell joined HRMC in June 2016 as a registered nurse and continued to work part-time while she completed a Master of Science family nurse practitioner degree at South Dakota State University. McCaskell also holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of South Dakota.
“I’m excited to take on the challenge of this position and use my nursing experience and nurse practitioner education and skills to provide excellent care to our community,” said McCaskell. “Each day is a new experience and challenge, which is something I very much enjoy.”
The introduction of McCaskell’s position is part of a plan to help improve recruitment and retention of community physicians by helping to reduce after-hours calls and improve physician family and work balance.
Originally from Huron, McCaskell is the daughter of Wes and Shari Goehner. She and her husband Trevor, who works at Northwest Pipe Fittings, live in Huron. In her spare time, McCaskell enjoys spending time with family, working out and getting ready for the birth of their first child, which they are expecting in January 2020.
