Renner Recognized as HRMC Innovator of the Quarter

Sheila Renner, MT, laboratory supervisor, was recently recognized as Huron Regional Medical Center’s (HRMC) first Innovator of the Quarter.
Renner, who has worked at HRMC more than 32 years, submitted a suggestion to redesign employee name badges to ensure the name and department of each individual is consistently visible to patients, visitors and other staff members. Renner’s suggestion was selected as the winning idea for the Innovator of the Quarter challenge, a new award at HRMC.
Each quarter, the Innovator Award will be presented and celebrated, indicating eligibility for an annual Innovator of the Year Award. Ideas are submitted by employees via online form or paper suggestion card and are selected by the leadership team based upon impact to patient and employee experience, feasibility, and innovation. The Innovator Award celebrates the power of innovation in solving practical problems and enhancing the quality of care delivered at HRMC.
Renner’s idea spurred the initiation of a task force to redesign employee name badges to ensure that even if badges are reversed, employee names are visible, which provides a more personal approach to patient care.
Renner graduated from Huron High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology from South Dakota State University in 1989. Prior to joining the HRMC team, she worked at St. Luke’s in Aberdeen for a year and at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mitchell for a year.
She lives in Huron with her husband, Jeff. They have one son, Brandon. In her spare time, Renner enjoys being a member of the gardening club, volunteering, cooking, baking and crafting.
