Roti Recognized with DAISY Award at HRMC

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced Kathy Roti, RN, as a recipient of the DAISY Award.
Roti works in the HRMC home health and hospice department and was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient’s family. “Kathy helped us so much when our mother approached end of life,” stated the nomination. “What a comfort to know our mother could pass with a heightened level of comfort.”
Roti has been a nurse for 35 years and has provided care for patients and their families as an HRMC home health and hospice nurse for over five years. “A long time ago a nurse told me to care for people like they’re family – like they’re your grandma or grandpa or your mom or dad,” remarked Roti. “So, that’s what I do.”
Roti shared her fulfillment from caring for hospice patients, “As a hospice nurse, you’re not just there for the patient, but for the family, providing comfort cares, pain relief, spirituality and just being there to help.” She continued, “This award makes me feel really good, but I’m just doing my job.”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at age 33 of complications from an auto-immune disease to honor his memory and thank nurses who provide exceptional compassion and kindness to patients.
Roti lives in Huron and has three grown children: Travis (Karmen), of Rapid City, Amber (Robbie), of Hartford, and Tiffani (Hector), of Huron. She also has two granddaughters and four grandsons. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her children, grandchildren and her dog, Kondor, as well as baking, crocheting, completing puzzles and cleaning.
Roti is the third DAISY Award winner at HRMC, with one nurse recognized each quarter. The department and shift of the award winner receives fresh cinnamon rolls to celebrate. Nominees for each quarter also receive a pin recognizing their compassion and care. Nominations may be submitted by staff, visitors, providers and patients, with forms available throughout the hospital and online at www.huronregional.org/daisy-awards.
