Huron, S.D. – Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored its August Exceptional Employee of the Month, Nancy Schwartz, with a small department celebration earlier this month.
Schwartz, who has worked as a housekeeper and floor tech in HRMC’s environmental services department for 12 years, was nominated by coworkers to receive the honor. According to the nomination, “Nancy goes above and beyond to maintain safety and cleanliness in our hospital. She always steps up to a challenge with no complaint and has done so even more in the wake of COVID-19.
“She was the first to clean a room used for a COVID patient and has educated others on how to do so effectively since,” the nomination continued. “Nancy works with both housekeeping and the nursing staff to implement proper cleanliness measures that are essential in maintaining quality care.”
HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s values of being accessible, helpful and knowledgeable. Employees can be nominated by other coworkers or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees.
As August exceptional employee, Schwartz received a recognition reception with social distancing, a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.
Originally from Huron, Schwartz graduated from Huron High School. She joined the HRMC team in 2008.
“I am very thankful for this job and the people I work with,” explained Schwartz. “It’s a blessing to be a part of a team that is here to care for the people in our community when they need it most.”
Schwartz has two grown sons: Patrick (Anne) Schwartz of Omaha, Nebraska and Blake (Katrina) Schwartz, who live in Brookings, and five grandsons, two granddaughters and one great granddaughter. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, crocheting, cleaning, spending time with her grandchildren and playing with her dog Libby Lou.
Patients or visitors can nominate an exceptional employee by calling 605 353-6539 for a nomination form or via e-mail at hr@huronregional.org.
