HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to exceed expectations. Employees can be nominated by other employees or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees.
As November exceptional employee, Smidt received a reception with friends and coworkers, a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.
Originally from Avon, Smidt is the oldest of 13 children. She earned an associate and bachelor degree in nursing from Huron University. Smidt and her husband, Terry who works at True North Steel, live in Huron and have two grown children Stacy (Dan) Quam and Scott (Holly) Smidt in Huron. They also have five grandchildren ages 14 to 21 years old. In her spare time, Smidt enjoys camping, baking and spending time with family. She is an active member of First Baptist Church.
“I started my career working on the surgical floor, then in home health and now in dialysis and it has been a great journey,” said Smidt. “HRMC is a loyal employer and I work with a great group of people. I have truly enjoyed my career here.”
