Sopko Joins HRMC as Director of Social Services

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is pleased to announce Jessi Sopko, MSW, LCSW, QHMP, has been named director of social services, according to DeeAnna Opstedahl, RN, MSN, CNOR, vice-president of patient services for HRMC.
Sopko, who started at HRMC on November 1, directs all social services activities for the hospital as Karen Springer, MSW, transitions to part-time work. Sopko is responsible for coordinating available community and hospital resources for patients and support persons/caregivers across patient care settings.
“Jessi has a demonstrated history of providing compassionate, professional assistance to our community,” said Opstedahl. “Her knowledge and experiences will help us continue to provide excellent patient-centered care and access community resources to best serve our patients.”
Sopko earned her Master of Science Degree in social work, from University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. She also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in human development and family studies from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD.
Sopko began her career as a CARE specialist at Southeastern Behavioral Health and served as a mobile crisis team member in Minnehaha and Lincoln counties. Since November 2018, Sopko worked as a case management clinical supervisor, therapist and emergency services consultant at Community Counseling.
“I look forward in working to serve all those I encounter at HRMC,” said Sopko. “I am most excited at the opportunity to assist our patients and entire community in working with the new community liaisons at HRMC,” she shared. “We can make a real difference in sharing information about resources that the liaisons can pass along to those who need it most.”
Sopko and her husband, Jeramie, who also works at HRMC, have four sons; Devin, who is 22 and resides in Brookings, Mason, who is 21 and is serving in the U.S. Army in Tacoma, Washington, Logan, who is in and serving in the Marine Corps in Twentynine Palms, California, and Kolton, who is 9. In her spare time, she enjoys following her family in their activities, reading and gardening.
