    Emergency

    Emergency care services at HRMCHealth issues don’t take nights and weekends off, and neither does HRMC. When you are injured in an accident or experiencing symptoms that require immediate care, HRMC's emergency room is here for you 24 hours a day/365 days a year. We are committed to providing high-quality emergency care in an efficient and timely manner.

    HRMC's emergency room offers two trauma rooms and four treatment rooms with around-the-clock professional care. HRMC can treat a full spectrum of patient experiences, including traumatic injuries and heart and stroke incidents.  Because ambulances are equipped with electrocardiogram (EKG) capabilities, our staff can initiate the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac events before patients even reach the hospital.

    Triage

    Upon your arrival to the ER, your condition will be evaluated to determine the severity and extent of how life-threatening your condition is. Due to the nature of emergencies, those patients with life-threatening illness or injury will be treated first even if you arrived before that individual.

    As you are triaged, the nurse will be assessing your medical condition so our emergency staff can better understand your condition and treatment needs. Please understand that waiting periods can occur in the Emergency Department. If there is a wait time, try to remain calm. Obviously it is difficult to remain composed if you are ill or have been injured, but a calm attitude can help increase communication with the providers and nurses who are caring for you.

    When you first arrive, you will be asked about the following:

    • Current medical condition and symptoms
    • Previous medical care and medical history, including your physician's name
    • Current prescriptions and over-the-counter medications – To help you organize your list, use our Medication Wallet Card.

    Registration

    Registration forms help us create a record of your history, diagnosis and treatment. You or a family member will be asked to sign a consent form that will give us permission to treat you. Our doors are open to anyone in need of emergency medical services.

    Tests

    HRMC’s emergency room has the necessary resources available to diagnose your medical condition. Although you may previously have had tests performed in your physician’s office, there may be times further testing may be needed to help diagnose your current situation.

    Visiting and Accompanying a Patient

    To allow the emergency team a significant amount of space and to ensure the best care for our patients, we must limit visitors in the ER exam rooms. We also limit visitors to maintain the appropriate level of privacy for all our patients. We will make every effort to keep the patient informed about their medical condition and allow visitors to enter the room when possible. One to two support persons/visitors may be allowed in the ER exam room at a time. We thank you in advance for your help in respecting our request.

    Our Staff        

    You can rely on our staff of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, technicians and other support staff members to deliver care with excellence and compassion. Our emergency services staff is highly skilled and trained, and is certified in:

    • Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

    In addition, the medical staff includes specialists in the community that are available to meet the needs of ER patients in many areas including obstetrics, general surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics and family practice.
